How often does the wisdom of the youth take you by surprise? More specifically the wisdom of your own children? I know my kids are pretty smart but every now and then they take me by surprise with just exactly how smart they are on certain topics.
Some lessons take longer than others to learn and having a heart of forgiveness is often one of those lessons. In theory it is quite simple – just let it go. There is however a little weed called self-righteousness that somehow manages to suffocate the simplicity right out of forgiveness…
But I’m right…
My daughter and I were having a conversation a couple of days ago about relationships. How being right is entirely overrated if it comes at the cost of relationships. Relationships are after all the only really important thing we have in this world. You can win an argument but end up damaging a relationship because being right was more important than loving the person.
This is where my Sweatpea (my nickname for this amazing young woman that is my daughter) caught me off guard with her wisdom and insight.
Wisdom of the Youth…
“People will be so much better off, if only they can learn to accept the apology that they’re never going to get.”
Wow! Isn’t that the truth? Blessed are the peacemakers. Blessed are the meek. If someone you care about have wronged you, blessed them with your forgiveness. Even though they might not deserve it. I know the Father blesses us daily with grace and forgiveness that we can never hope to deserve.
